Warren Harding once promised “A chicken in every pot and a car in every garage.” Well in the case of Congressman hopeful William Herlong it also included a moon pie, RC Cola and a fried baloney sandwich in every lunchbox. Let alone a lunchbox cleverly decorated towards his campaign for congress. My guess is that this lunchbox likely belonged to one of his children who brought it to school each day to promote ole’pop. It really is delightful creation of folk art with hand painted battle flags and drum. The American flag has the 1976 Bicentennial design which pins done the time period of his campaign. Overall it is a great piece of Americana with good eye appeal.
