Authentic c.1880’s Cast iron nutcracker in the form of a dog; lifting of tail opens the mouth to crack a nut, set on a rectangular base.
This dog resembles a St. Bernard or perhaps a Lab. It is a rare occurrence to find an authentic one and not a cheap 1970’s knock-off with a flat base. Weighs about 5 pounds and from an old Illinois farming family. And let me say it still works with vigor.
