I am not certain if I have ever heard of a wedding and funeral held in the same day in the same house, but this is what occurred during the wedding of Ralph J. Jewel and Maggie F.Hood of Adrian, Michigan in the year of 1874. The oddity of this event made national news throughout the country. An article in the Sacramento Daily News reported the event as the following:
Tbeie y\as a singular occurrence in Adrian,. Mich., recently— funeral and a wedding at the same house and in the same family. Ralph J. Jewell and Miss Maggie F. Hood were married* and accompanied the remains of the lattei's sister, who died suddenly, to Schenectady, New York.
Further research finds that the dead sister was fastened in a chair and was placed in front of the wedding alter between the bride and groom during the ceremony.
I hate to think how this dearly departed was utilized during the wedding night?
This couple's favorite film had to be Weekend at Bernie's.
