A fine Pay Order receipt for an astonishing 240 pounds to Captain Case of the Continental Army from the newly-formed State of Connecticut, called the “Provision State” by George Washington. Dated January 26 1780 and signed by Treasurer John Lawrence.

In today's inflation that would be roughly $4,176.70 paid to Captain “Case”. The receipt may contain a misspelling of the officer’s name as I believe upon careful research this is Captain Abraham Chase.

Two-sided with inscriptions 6" x 7 ¾ inches.
