A dog and a monkey are dressed in Confederate uniforms. The dog plays a drum that has the initials C.S.A. on it. The monkey wears a hat with the initials J.D. on it, has a sword drawn, spurs on his heels and a Confederate flag with a skull and crossbones tied to his tail. The caption below reads, "Recruits wanted for the Brave Southern Army--Good pay, (in Confederate Bonds) and good quarters, (in a horn.)" Blue ink on beige envelope, image on left side. Image printed on envelope, mounted on a decorative border and collected in an album.
