Early late 1850's Salt Print/Albumen of the "Jacob Strader," a steamboat mail packet on the Louisville and Cincinnati mail line. The "Jacob Strader" was a troop carrier during the Civil War and was dismantled in 1866.
As stated this is a very early photograph of this famed Cincinnati Steamboat. It appears like a lot of early paper images the details have been cleverly outlined by the artist to show details of the boat.
This image is housed in the original period frame. On the verso is an acid-free cover with new supporting pegs. Apparently there is attribution to the collection this image came from attached on the verso of the image. I have not removed the back to reveal the attribution.
Visible Image measures 5' x 7 inches, slightly larger under the concealment of the original mat.
