Very rare, original, ca1861, Anti-Confederate States Civil War Illustrated Patriotic Envelope / Cover with a wonderful, Editorial Cartoon type cache. This outstanding, Anti Confederate Civil War Cover measures approx. 5 1/2" x 3 1/8" and features a comic, silhouette an image of a Confederate Soldier carrying a bottle of Bourbon in one hand and a flaying whip to punish slaves in the other. He wears a hat with the letters "J. D." (Jefferson Davis) and a belt with lettering that reads "C.S.A." (Confederate States Army). Under his arm there is q staff with a Confederate Flag the canton of which has been replaced by a skull and cross-bones.

Text below the image reads "A member of the C.S.A. Alligator Rangers, who is to make 5 of the "Northern mudsils" run. We don't see it". The Cover is signed by the publisher - D. Murphy's Sons of New York City.

This cover like those presently listed in my shop came from a large folio scrapbook of Political & Patriotic covers.

Each cover was carefully pasted in the large folio by the owner who collected these as a small child during the Civil War through his entire life span which concluded as a very old man during World War 2.

The cover will be sent to you with the thin scrapbook backing that the cover was attached.
