Early c.1853 quarter-plate ambrotype of a smartly dressed Fancy Pants lad from Mobile, Alabama. This image is one of the very first ambrotypes to be developed, and has the evidence of the early developing process with the orange emulsion backing that been used on the first ambrotypes. The image is dark as result of this process, but still quite visible with strong tonality. It is a wonderful image that is now over 160 years old. And one has to love that little boy dressed to the nines by his mother.
