Straight from the 1950's these hand made in Japan woodpecker salad bowls have a modern look. The bowls are sleekly- shaped with no lip around the rim but with a two level bowl edge on the outside. The four bowls have a definite sheen in the inside and have the burned wood stamp reading, woodpecker wood-ware, Handmade in Japan and a bird on the underside. The backs are less shiny and some have less lacquer on them. The insides have a wonderful swirl look of natural wood and are 5 ½ inches wide and 1 ½ inches deep. One bowl has a ¾ inch crack on the edge. I have put with this set the light weight spoon fork salad set that came with these bowls. They almost appear to be teak wood and they are very light weight and 10 inches long.
