This child planter has a little boy or girl holding a blue fan. The child is sitting legs to the left side. The child’s face is angelic with black eyes and straight black eye brows and jet black hair. The color of this pottery planter is rose and blue. The child is resting against a large white urn, the open planter, which has oriental letters on it. The piece stands 6 inches tall and 6 ½ inches long. The opening is 2 ½ inches wide. This sweet planter is marked Royal Copley 8 on the bottom in white letters. The base is glazed around the mark and has the telltale parallel ridge around the mark. The outside edge of the base is unglazed. The inside shows no obvious use wear just two black marks that look like spills of paint under the glaze. I see no crazing of this piece and has a nice shine on it. Royal Copley pottery was made from 1942 to 1957 according to my identification book and Kovels says 1939-1960. Made for dime stores these pieces were highly prized at a very reasonable price and always has a nice quality glaze. A very nice piece of pottery in excellent condition.
