If you collect Olympic items as I do this item from the 1972 Munchen Olympics is a find. This cork beer coaster, sometimes called beer mats, is from the Olympics in Munchen. It is two-sided and has a lower rounded edge with a squared off top. It reads Spaten and Munchen in black letters. The center has a red badge with GS in it and what looks like a shovel. The other side has a girl holding a mug and wearing a green hat. It states Willkommen in Munchen 1972 and has the Olympic rings on it. It reads Olympia-Zeit Spaten-Zeit on it. Think about Mark Spitzs many swimming medals and you will remember one of the events of the 1972 summer Olympics in West Germany. The other event at the Summer Olympics that year was the awful Munchen massacre. That was when eleven Israeli Olympic team members were taken hostage and eventually killed, along with a German police officer, by the Palestinian terrorist group called "Black September". This is a very unique beer and Olympic collectible.
