Outstanding example of the British love for their race horses. This piebald (black and white) pony lived a long life of 33 years and is listed in records as having sired other racing horses. His hoof was then preserved for his owner by renowned taxidermist Rowland Ward of Piccadilly St London as a functioning matchstrike mounted in brass. There is wear to the piece commensurate to its age but it is solid and in excellent condition. The lid has been polished to show the engraving but the body has been left untouched. A remarkable piece, it measures 5" long, 3 1/2" across and 2 3/4" high.
