Charming brass piece by famed makers Los Castillo of Mexico. It could function both as a letter opener and a bookmark. The tip is curved to open letters and the back piece with the Maker's mark is wide enough to clip numerous pages. The top of the piece is decorated with a smiling brass cat whose tail curves out. There are a few light marks on the front which could be polished out but is otherwise in excellent condition. Los Castillo began producing pieces in 1939 and this piece probably dates to mid century. It measures 3 7/8" long and 1" wide at the top.
