Offered here is an elegant 19th Century Harp Base, Biedermeier Oval Top Writing Desk/Entryway-Foyer Table. Biedermeir period furniture first entered the scene in Germany (1815-1848) but soon found its way to Scandinavian countries. It grew from more elaborate complicated designs when the growing middle class was looking for a more utilitarian style. If one follows its history you will find many unique styles. I will refer to this piece as a writing desk, as the large drawer extends the width of the table (40 inches wide). Length measures 56 inches by 34 inches high. The craftsmanship is exquisite with a matched walnut veneer top with two impressive fluted column legs on matched walnut veneered harp base. The piece is simple sophistication at its best and would work easily into todays mid-century look or other. It's quite lovely. Sales tax must be collected for buyers living in or picking up in New York State. Local tax rate applies.
