Offered here is a Western Stoneware Co. Monmouth, Ill. Crock w/Lid and Weir Seal. There is also a usable rubber ring seal. It is not dry and crumbling, but pliable. Incised on the bottom of the jar is .70.140. The jar measures 9 inches high by 5 1/2 inches in diameter. The bale handle is in good working order with smooth oxidation. The jar is in age-related condition with the usual imperfections one would expect to find in early pottery. Please see photos. There are no major chips to mention, but there are areas of crackling and a light hairline crack, that has not affected the integrity of the jar. The jar is clean and in usable or decorative condition. Would I consider storing candy or other type foods in it? Yes…or maybe, stash some cash. It’s a nice looking jar and still demands some respect. Sales tax must be collected for buyers living in or picking up in New York State. Local tax rate applies.
