Vintage Housewares: Rug Beater: Advertising
Absolutely still a viable and necessary housewares tool is this Vintage Batwing Rug Beater by Johnson Novelty Co. These rug beaters were a necessary item for beating the dirt and dust from small sized scatter and area rugs. This one is pretty hefty measuring in at 28 inches long. The green wooden handle measures 16 inches long and shows wear from use and age. Printed on the handle is THE BATWING BEATER, Pat. Oct. 4, 1927 JOHNSON NOVELTY CO. DANVILLE P.A. The Batwing shaped heavy gauged metal wire beater paddle at the top is connected to the handle with a twisted spring-like heavy gauged metal wire. This is a continuation of the Batwing beater paddle and remains securely attached. The wire paddle at top measures 8 ¾ inches across by 9 ¼ inches wide at bottom and is 11 ½ inches long. Item is in good age-related condition and still works. Color appears to indicate rust but it is oxidation of the wire and it is smooth. Sales tax must be collected for buyers living in or picking up in New York State. Local tax rate applies.
