This 19th century carved, hand-held Butter Mold/Press was found in Virginia but I believe it to be Pennsylvania made. I believe the wood is maple and is comprised of three pieces; the mold, the press stamp, and the handle which is screwed into the stamp. The carved Press has a very clean four direction leaf motif, surrounded by a double border. The mold is 4-5/8 inches in diameter by 3-3/4 inches high and the press diameter is 3-5/8 inches. Overall height to the top of press handle is 5-1/4 inches. It has a nice patina and is a wonderful example of woodenware used in the 19th century. The stamp and mold both have some cracks in them and the handle does twist in but most of the threads are gone. Also the bulb on top of the handle, that keeps it in place, is gone. Sales tax must be collected for buyers living in or picking up in New York State. Local tax rate applies.
