Offered here is a striking Arts & Crafts, Cherry Wood, Banister Back Settee. It is a signed piece by Joseph P. McHugh. He has been reported as the father of the Arts & Crafts period (1880-1920) even though Gustav Stickley has taken all the credit. McHugh’s furniture was sold in New York City at the “Popular Shop” in Manhattan. See original label attached to the bottom of the settee. Overall measurements are 57 ¾ inches long by 44 ¾ inches high by 24 ½ inches wide. The seat measures 15 inches high. Condition is good. Back, arms and legs are secure. Use settee as is or add decorative seat cushions and throw pillows. It would be very inviting in an entryway hall or foyer. Sales tax must be collected for buyers living in or picking up in New York State. Local tax rate applies.
