Offered here is an early 1800’s Pewter Basin. It is partially marked on the back in oval, COMPTON; made by Thomas & Townson Compton, London (in business 1802-1814) one of London’s great exporters. The basin/bowl measures 8 1/16 inches in diameter with a single reed rim edge. This basin is from the estate of Donald and Mary Carmichael, Lyme, NH. They had a very impressive collection of American and English pewter. A little provenance: Mr. Carmichael worked in President Johnson’s administration. Mary was a noted ballet dancer. Basin/bowl is in age related condition and quite nice. Sales tax must be collected for buyers living in or picking up in New York State. Local tax rate applies.
