Offered here is a beautiful hand-hewn 19th Century Elliptical Shaped Wooden Trencher/Bowl. It measures 21 ¾ inches long by 13 3/8 inches wide by 3 7/8 inches high. There is a slight variation in these measurements at different points around the bowl due to it being hand hewn. Example: one end side measures 4 inches high and the other end 3 inches. Thickness of wood varies from 1 1/8 inches to 1 ¼. The exterior patina is one that can only be achieved from age and use with smooth age ring ripples in the wood and a slight indentation where I would assume was worn down from chopping; the interior bottom is non-the-less, smooth. Color and grain of wood is full and rich. It is quite nice. Interior is also smooth with soft rippled grain lines or age rings in wood; if one saws a log in half you would see the age rings. Bowl is in age related condition appearing as if at one time it may have been red grain painted. At one end there is what I determine to be a square shaped hole where a nail may have been for hanging. Sales tax must be collected for buyers living in or picking up in New York State. Local tax rate applies.
