Cameo Hand Cut in the Germanic Style and set in 14K gold. These early cameos can easily be placed in time because of their profile. The strong jaw and prominent nose of the image places them in the late 1800's. If the profile of the image has a pert little nose she was popular in the 20th century.
This cameo is hand carved from a shell and dates from 1880. There are slight blemishes in the shell and some variation in the color. The mounting is nicely styled and quite wide at 1/4" at the widest point. Both the mounting and the clasp are marked 14Y which stands for 14K yellow gold.
She measures 1 7/8" tall by 1 1/2" wide and approximately 1/2" deep. The weight is 4oz. The clasp has a locking mechanism, the pin is a little bent and not so sharp but that's an easy fix. There is a loop at the top of the cameo that would hold a chain for wearing this pin as a necklace. I can not see a mark on this loop but t looks to be original to the mount so I assume it is also 14K
