Land Patent Territory of Iowa 1852 Vellum

During the settlement of Iowa the first applicants or buyers under the Act of Congress of 1820 were issued a Patent instead of a Deed. Once the land under the Patent was sold to the succeeding buyers a Land Deed was issued.

The document is printed on vellum and issued to Luke Calvin Ober of Suffolk County Massachusetts. The document was signed by the secretary of Willard Fillmore and bears a faded seal in the lower left hand corner.

Faded from age, two small holes but in remarkable condition for its age. This documents measures 15" x 9 3/4" and has light soil and has been folded for many years.

A wonderful historical document suitable for a family search of the family of Luke Calvin Ober,
