This is a fantastic, large crystal box with brass accents. The hardware is adorned with acanthus-like leaves that alternate with dot-topped, vertical lines. The front handle is a detailed wreath, topped with a flowing ribbon.
Approximately 5-1/8” long x 3-1/2” wide x 4-1/4” tall, this unsigned piece is extremely heavy.
We believe this to be from the late-19th century, from France.
(Note—the box is a bit clearer than our pictures would lead you to believe, as the silvery lead in the crystal shines to the flash of our camera.)
Condition: Very Good+ crystal—top and bottom halves each have a bubble below the surface, hinting that this piece was probably mouth blown into a mold before the pattern was hand-cut; the underside exhibits scratches all about and “frosted” wear in three of the four corners (we tried to capture this in our pictures). Very Good brass hardware--wear to the interior portions.
A great item, particularly for those who collect the Waterford “Lismore” pattern.
If you collect boxes, crystal or just have that perfect spot for a bit of elegance, then you must have this.
