I've had this unusual tape measure before. It's one of a series of whimsical metal tape measures made in the first quarter of the 20th century; this hard-to-find measure is a Whiskey flask with the words “I Made Kentuckey Famous – “in a Measure”. Yes, the state of Kentucky is actually misspelled, adding even more charm to this fun little tape.
These don't come on the market very often. There's a series of five of these figural tape measures documented – besides the “Kentuckey” flask, there's also a figural turtle, a straw boater hat, a shoe and a Liberty Bell. The flask tape is one of the more difficult ones to locate. Tape measure collectors often try to find all five for their personal collections, and sometimes it takes years.
This tape is silver-plated over brass, and is in very good vintage condition, showing the appropriate wear for it's age. The spring action works well, and the original cotton tape is original and complete. It is two inches tall, 1 ¼ inches wide.
