I love this handcarved and handpainted bird – found him in Ohio, but his artist is unknown. The fabulous paint surface is old and crusty, just as it should be. He's from the early 1900s, and is so handsome in his rich bittersweet and black colors. His wire legs are crusty too – the aged oxidation is true to form.
He stands 6-1/4 inches tall on his gilded base, and is 7 inches from tail to beak. He dates to around the first quarter of the last century.
