This charming little trinket dish or pipe rest was made in Japan and dates to the 1930's when lusterware, and also the Pierrot figure, were so popular.
Made of porcelain with a shiny yellow luster glaze on the suit and hand painted features and a softer satin glaze on the face. The black highlights were cold painted after the firing.
Measures 4 5/8" long, 2 1/2" wide and about 1 1/2" tall.
Nicely molded and painted and in excellent condition with no damage and very few of the manufacturing flaws that are commonly found on this type of thing. A dot of extra clay on the underside and 2 small spots of paint chipping on the head. All other bright spots in the photos are flash glare.
Incised with "Made in Japan" on the underside.
