A nice set of wooden dining room doll house furniture including a buffet, table and 2 chairs. Made in Germany in the first part of the 20th Century and referred to by collectors as Red Stain or Red Line furniture.
Made of light wood with glued construction and finished with a dark reddish stain to emulate mahogany. The door on the buffet in impressed with a leaf design with an Art Nouveau flair. This door hinges on two small pins and opens with a small brass knob.
The scale of the table and chairs is 3/4" = 1'. The table is 2 1/4" tall and a 4 1/4" by 2 1/2" rectangle and the seat height of the chair seats is just under 1 1/2". The buffet is perhaps a little larger in scale and measures 3 1/2" tall, 4 1/4" long and 1 3/8" deep.
These pieces were found together although they vary slightly in stain color and also in marking. The bright light amplifies the color difference in the first picture; the second shows a truer representation of the colors. The table and chairs retain the original paper tag (or remnants of it) and the buffet is incised with; "Germany" on the back side. Because of these differences and also the scale variance we will consider selling them separately (but will not split up table and chairs).
All pieces are in nice condition with no breaks or repairs and little sign of play wear. They exhibit the irregularities in the stain (around glue joints, open ends of the wood, etc.) that are common to this furniture. There are 2 lightly incised lines on the side of the buffet which are perhaps construction lines or already existing in the wood when the piece was made (Shown in the 4th picture).
