This nice 6 piece bedroom set was made around the turn of the 20th Century by Moritz Gottschalk or another of the many German toy makers that operated in the Thuringia area throughout the 19th and into the 20th Century.
Made in of light wood with glued construction and a grayish paint with gilded embellishments typical of the Gottschalk company. The set includes 2 beds, 2 night tables, mirrored dresser and wardrobe. The beds are covered in a charming old paper resembling mattress ticking. All the doors open with small brass tacks and inside the wardrobe are tiny nails for hanging. The dresser actually is more the form of a sideboard but matches the other furniture in all aspects.
Made in large 1" scale; the beds measure 6 1/2" long, 3 1/2" wide and 4 3/8" tall at the headboard. The wardrobe is 7 1/2" tall, 3 3/4" wide and 2" deep and the dresser is 6 1/2" tall, 4" wide and 2 1/2" deep. More dimensions on request.
While the pieces are in nice structural condition, the paint has suffered, especially on the wardrobe which shows much flaking and the remaining paint is fragile. There is overall smudging on all from much handling over the years. The last picture showing the backs illustrates this best. The mirror has aging and 2 vertical stripes where the silvering is missing, probably from tape. It is now covered with a piece of brown paper that reads: "Judith". There is a water stain on one bed which extends to the paper covering. Please use the photos as further description of condition and more will be gladly provided.
A nice set but not in the best condition and priced accordingly.
