This charming little sewing table was made for a 1" scale dollhouse and measures 3" tall and wide and 2 3/4" deep. The two small leaves on each side open increasing the width to 4 1/4".
Made in Germany around the turn of the 20th Century, this furniture is often referred to as 'Red Stain' or 'Red Line' and is a favorite with collectors. Made of light wood with glued construction and a dark reddish stain and a dry finish with no varnish or other sealer. The leaves are hinged with glued-on strips of canvas type fabric and are held open with small bars of wood that slide out from the body. The top drawer does not function and hides this mechanism while the bottom drawer opens to reveal divided sections for sewing implements. Sits on a turned column and three delicately carved legs.
The Red Line furniture was made in both 3/4" and 1" scale and some pieces can be used with either size. However this particular piece is slightly larger and may not mix well with 3/4" scale furniture. Shown in the first picture with a 1" scale chair and with an assortment of other red stain pieces in the last picture. More information about individual pieces and availability will be gladly provided.
In excellent condition with no damage, repairs or signs of re-gluing. Retains the paper sticker reading; "Germany" on the underside.
