This lovely little desk and chair were made by Schneegas or another of the many German toy makers that produced dollhouse furniture throughout the 19th Century and until the 1930's. Although they were found together, they were probably not a 'set' as the turned legs have a different style but are a nice match in size and color.
Made of light wood with glued construction and an unusual medium brown stain rather than the so-called "Golden Oak" finish (or veneer) that is typical for much of the Schneegas furniture.
The desk top is split in top and the front section swings open on a fabric hinge. The front panel is also hinged and folds back when open for holding papers. The writing surface is tucked into the desk and extends out with the help of a small indent in the wood.
The chair is made in the "Windsor" style with bentwood back rail and 3 small tapered spindles. Turned legs with cross pieces for stability.
Both pieces are in beautiful condition with no damage or evidence of repairs or re-gluing.
The chair is incised; "Germany" on the underside. No markings on the desk.
