This large and heavy mirrored plateau measures 14 3/4" in diameter overall. The mirror is about 13 /2" in diameter and it stands at 1 3/8" tall. It is very heavy and the un-packaged weight is over 5 pounds.
The frame is made of steel and trimmed with an ornate casting that is soldered to the base and also held on with folded over tangs. This is gilded with what appears to be paint rather than plating as the underside does not have the gold finish. The color is a dark antique gold.
It is very substantial and sturdy with no bending on the 11 delicately cast legs and no wobble. The mirror is in very nice condition with just a few light scratches, some shadowing on the underside of the mirror and just a few very small spots of silvering loss. The base shows wear, especially around the top edge and we have shown the area with the most loss in the close up photo. An old wire was attached by a previous owner that is easily removed if desired. The backing is heavy cardboard. Very chic and just a little shabby.
Dates to around the turn of the 20th Century when entertaining was a high art. These were used as foundations for centerpieces on the dining table but would also make a lovely vanity tray for perfumes or, in this case, hung on a wall.
This will be carefully packaged and double boxed to protect during shipping.
