This lovely vessel measures 5" tall and 3 1/2" in diameter. The straight sides are gently lobed and finish in a flat scallop on the bottom. This scallop is repeated on the lid.
Each side of the body and the lid has been handpainted with a yellow oval surrounded by pale pink, yellow-centered posies. One side is further embellished with a spray of flowers below the banded top. Light brown or tan matte glaze trims the top rim and lid edge. Outlines of raised white enamel and wisps of shiny gold set off the flowers and finial.
In excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. Just minor wear the the gold line on the finial. The lid has a very slight wobble.
Blue stamped; "Made in Japan" dating it after 1921. This was the year that the United States required that all imported goods be marked (in English) with the country of origin. These items were used at the table to camouflage a can of condensed or 'coffee' milk.
