This wonderful bronze grouping measures 6 5/8" tall with a 8" by 3 1/2" base. Very fine detailing on the racehorses and their riders and a rich brown patina over all. The reins are thin strips of copper and are threaded through holes in the jockeys hands. They are stationary but flexible. Please view the photos to appreciate the details and great appeal that this small grouping presents. The small size makes it easy to display on desk or mantle.
In excellent condition with no breaks and just a few small rubs to the lovely patinated finish. There is some darkening and perhaps slight oxidation around the air holes located on the horses breasts and under the tails.
Cast-in mark on the underside that is virtually unreadable..could be "121", also a character that may be an artist's mark or perhaps just extra material. Although we have no way of definitively dating this, the subject matter and style suggests early to mid 20th Century.
