Beautiful antique Bible, family or altar size, bound in lovely maroon leather with gold gilt embossed designs on front and spine, and title on spine "The Holy Bible Edin 1822". This is The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments, translated out of the Original Tongues, by His Majesty's Special Command, Edinburgh: Printed by Sir D. Hunter Blair and J. Bruce, printers to the King's Most Excellent Majesty, 1822". This Bible is in good condition, especially for the age, with the expected wear on the exterior and interior, but the binding is sturdy, we see separation inside the front cover, but it may only be that the ffep and probably an old presentation page have been removed, and the Bible may have been re-glued or sewn in the past, just not sure, but sturdy now. The pages inside have some age darkening, but little if any foxing, text is clean and of a print size quite easy to read. Page exterior edges tipped in gold gilt, with age fading. This Bible measures 12 & 3/4" tall. There is no family information section. This Bible includes the books called Apocrypha, making it acceptable for both Protestants and also Catholics.
