Offering for sale a lovely and rare two book set of prayer books in soft leather bindings. One is The Book Of Common Prayer and Administration Of The Sacraments and other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church According to the use of The Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America together with the Psalter of Psalms of David. the second book is The Hymnal, revised and enlarged, as adopted in 1892. These were published by E. & J. B. Young & Co, and printed in London by Eyre and Spottiswoode, printers to the Queen. Dark brown soft leather with gold gilt titles on spine, and gold gilt cross and decoration on the front of the Common Prayer book and the back of the Hymnal, a very unusual design, so when held together the sacred symbols are on both sides. Robin egg blue marbled end papers, outer page edges gold gilt still shiny. Original owner name written in pencil inside the Common Prayer book no other writing. Books have some wear, especially on the leather edges. Pages have age darkening, Some corners have been folded down in the past. Back of Common Prayer has a flap which appears to be original, and has separated from the underlying board at the lower edge.. This set is 5" tall, 2 & 3/4" wide and held together are 1" thick.
