Beautiful old framed miniature of the Virgin Mary, adapted from "Madonna and Child With Angels" by F. Lippi, circa 1465 for the original art, this miniature early to mid 1900's. It features only the image of the Virgin Mary very true to the original with only mild differences. As to the art miniature, we took a peek inside lifting off gently the black backing fabric, we see handwriting on the back of the art identifying the artist, the subject and the gallery in which the original is located. The art is an oval, and appears to be thicker than paper. Through the glass we do see some gold accents on her garment, etc; it is not easy to tell if this is a painted miniature or a very very fine lithograph printing with possible hand coloring or embellishment. The history of the company would put this in the early 1900's as to when it was framed we think, and our research shows at that time they dealt in mostly original art and fine art, this is all we can find out as when the company was sold the records of prior art evidently went away. We really don't like to disturb miniatures as they can be easily damaged and there is also the risk of dirt or foreign objects getting inside. It is a beautiful and old miniature regardless of which technique was used. On the back black fabric is a metal label for "The F. H. Bresler Co., Fine Arts, Boston" and on the back of the frame on the metal loop support, "Foster Bros Boston". This lovely art is behind a glass with black reverse painted border, and a silver tone metal or similar oval mat, just gorgeous. It measures 3 & 7/8" tall and 3 & 3/8" wide.
