Lovely unusual old Passion shadowbox with crucifix, print of the mourners, and instruments of the passion all under glass. We have never seen another one like this. The cross appears to be wood, with very detailed gold gilt Corpus of Christ on the crucifix, surrounded on top, sides and below with many symbols also in metal of Instruments of the Passion including the ladder, etc. Green colored stones cover the bottom of the shadowbox to resemble grass. A plaque is also at the bottom inside, in black with gold lettering :"Thy Kingdom Come 100 Days Indulgence Each Time (Pius IX 14th June 1877". The print that is the background is the typical Passion print in sepia or gray tones, and appears to be an engraving or print of one in fine detail. Artificial green leaves are on the upper two corners. Just a beautiful piece, suitable for home or church. It measures 17 & 1/2" by 21 & 1/2" and is in overall good condition with mild age wear.
