Lovely old monstrance in original wood fitted case. This lovely monstrance is gold gilt, we were told gold gilt over silver, but not sure of this, shiny gilt finish with some patina wear on the center where it has been held when carried in Eucharistic processions and used for Adoration for many years. It has its original luna, of a silver metal that appears to have a nearly rubbed off signature or hallmarks, the luna approximately 2" size. The Monstrance is 24 & 1/8" tall, 12" wide at the widest place in the starburst design, and the case is 26 & 1/4" tall and 13 & 1/4" wide and 4 & 3/4" deep. The case is in two pieces, with hook and screws closures, one of the screws is missing, easily replaced. The monstrance is a footed design, with angels on the starburst and also the column, cross on top, and behind the cross a small container we assume that might hold a flower? Not sure. This monstrance is a little lighter compared to the ones I have held in our Church, making me think it was also designed for travel, as in Europe Priests would I am sure travel around to small Chapels that did not have a regular Priest to serve. It is in good overall condition with age wear but no significant issue we can find. We love the Lamb of God on the front of the base, which is screw mounted and may or may not be original, it is hard to tell on these older items. Workmanship is lovely with fine details. We have not tried to remove the luna but it is in there, we just have too much respect to touch the inside not knowing if remnants of past use might remain. We acquired this from a fine antiques dealer that brings us back wonderful things from France and Europe, this was bought in France. We have marked this as freight shipping due to size and value.
