Offering for sale a wonderful old piano shawl or table scarf. This one features black silk crepe on which are embroidered large beautiful flowers of pink roses, green leaves, vines, etc. Most everyone refers to shawls such as this one as hand embroidered, but if you look closely, most are done by machine,; fine machine embroidery was being done even back to the early 1900's ! Some of the accents may be done by hand, but I do see machine work on the back on the large flowers. I actually own an antique needleowrk book that show how to do this type of embroidery on an old treadle sewing machine ! Surrounding the scarf is lovely black knotted fringe. I think the fringe is silk, but I believe the embroidery thread to be fine rayon, which accounts for the shine and luster. The shawl measures 48" by 46"; plus the 14" long fringe around, making the total size approximately a 60" square. This shawl was bought a long time ago from a local antiques dealer as part of our personal textiles collection, which we are starting to offer for sale in this shop. It is in good used condition, with a little wear on the embroidery here and there. There are no tears or repairs, I do see a few tiny tiny hopes, typical of old silk, but the fabric is strong and sturdy. This is of course beautiful on a piano or table, but also to wear.
