One of the two finest cameos we ever owned in our collection. This one in marked 14K yellow gold, actually a rose gold, a very ornate Victorian mounting with fine metalwork and lovely graduated pearls surrounding the cameo. The beautiful hand carved cameo is of black and white hardstone, assumed to be onyx, with wonderful detail and artistic quality. It is signed on the back by the artist, in script not easy to read, it looks like Dubarry and a 208 or a W8, just not sure at all. Over the back of the cameo is a clear glass, which probably housed a hair relic at one time, and can be used for that again or a small photo of a loved one. The pin fastener is intact and in good working order, and at the back top is a horizontal bar through which this can be strung on a necklace of pearls or attached to a gold chain if one desired. This magnificent and rare cameo measures 1 & 7/8" tall and 1 & 3/8" wide and is in very very good condition. Truly a beautiful piece worthy of being in a museum; and will be a heirloom to be treasured by the owner and passed down for many generations.
