Lovely old cameo, fine carved shell mounting in marked 800 silver. We see the marking clearly on the back, but the metal has a slight gold appearance, making us think it is a gold wash over the silver. The cameo features a very high relief carving of a young lady with flowers in her hair; and we think it is original to the mounting judging by the good fit on the edges. This piece was originally a brooch, with the fastener now gone, and there is a loop attached on the top back, as well as a more modern bale that has been added at the top by prior owner; complete with a gold tone 24" chain, also not original. We always leave items as found, so the chain is included. The pendant measures 1 & 3/4" by 1 & 1/4", with the carving in very good condition, the metalwork mounting with age wear, and a little tarnish, we have not cleaned or polished this piece at all. The last photo shows the cameo held up to lighting to show the details.
