Lovely set of four Japanese panels or screen panels, fine Oriental art on wood. These feature a background of dark brown painted wood, over which is nice painted faux brickwork design with maroon, and outer border of the dark brown and gold. Each panels has two center cameo panels, one on the top a large rectangular area with inlay of fine stones, soapstone we assume, in the shape and form of a Samurai, King or soldier in wonderful colors. At the bottom of each panel a small cameo area with a food dog, a frog, a dragon and a horse. Each panel measures 12 & 1/2" wide and 36" tall, each with a metal hanging hook on top. All four are in good structural condition, with some paint scraping on the wood borders here and there, and one place on a foot that has a small scrape in the stone. We acquired these from a local estate of a collector of Japanese arts; they had this set of panels and a large screen that they had acquired in the 20's, both items they felt so valuable they had them specifically insured. We are not sure if these were intended to be panels to hang on the wall, which is how we found them, or intended to be joined in a small folding screen. The workmanship on these is fabulous. These will require professional packing and freight shipping.
