Lovely large antique crucifix with carved or cast Corpus Christi or Corpus of Christ, mounted on wood, from France. The details on the figure are wonderful, very folk art in style, with good facial and crown of thorns features, well carved body, mounted with old nails. There is a seam at each upper arm, as the arms were almost always created separately and then attached. Mild wear on the figure especially on one arm, although it may not be wear and simply textured area. Many of the features may not show up well in the photos, including the ribs and fingers. The Corpus measures 7 & 1/2" tall and the entire crucifix is 14" tall. Overall very good condition. The Corpus is mounted by nails only on the feet and hands, historically correct, with no attachment on the body trunk, so the figure does move a little bit which is all original. We have never had one of these before and we think it is quite an amazing piece.
