Wonderful book on the portraiture of Kentucky, almost every page a photo of a portrait with extensive text opposite, rare book to find, have seen this as high as over one thousand at one time, 848 pages, cloth bound, secure binding with wear and small tearing on upper, see photos, some mild seperation back cover inside, etc. Has been used but still in quite nice condition, interior clean, no smoke no aromas, book is 9 and 3/4" tall, title no longer shows on spine, great book for art lovers, historians, and of course anyone collecting Kentucky items. One copy for sale on another site for 350 at the time of this listing. This is a good deal.

"When Miss Katherine Stout Bradley of Georgetown presented an album, containing a number of photographs of portraits, to the Historic Activities Committee of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, it was accompanied by the suggestion that the committee begin a collection of them. The advantages, she urged, would be threefold: the preservation of the known history of each painting, artist, and portrait subject, which, in the process of oral transmission, was in danger of becoming vaguer with successive generations; the preservation of the photographs as insurance against complete loss, since most of the portraits were housed in private homes and thus subject to destruction by fire; the opportunity afforded for study of a number of works by known artists, at given periods of their productivity, as well as those of unknown painters who might be identified in the process
