One of the most ornate inkwells we have had in gleaming shiny brass (or bronze), very heavy for the size, inkwell at center back, no liner, flanked by a dragon type figure on each side that are visible in detail both front and back. In the center of the plate part is a large Sartyr or mythical face, maybe even a lion, very elegant, with many other fine decorations allover including the fancy handles, even has feet with the front ones extending up into posts on the top. There are two holes in the plate, one on each side of the face symmetrical, see photos, not sure what was originally attached there, but you can be really creative with this, or just ignore them and have the plate part for your pens and pencils. This magnificent piece of metalwork measures 12 and 1/2" from handle tip to handle tip, and 6 and 1/2" from front to back of the bulbous inkwell. The back measures 5 and 3/4" tall from bottom of foot to top of the inkwell lid.
