What a fabulous antique button hook! Featuring an extremely ornate handle of fine metalwork including fruit, flowers, scrolls and swirls, topped on both sides by a very high relief face, a smiling man with horns; this piece is just dripping with exciting details! We have not had this tested, as we believe the true value is in the design and workmanship, obvious actually; so we will call it silverplate, but we think the handle is 800 silver by both appearance and touch, which would be typical for the time period and its being of European origin, also a guess but we feel quite strongly of this origin, again based on design and quality. The shaft and hook part is probably a silver tone metal or plated, as we see some wear on the end. The total length is 10 & 1/8" long. We have never seen another one of this detail. Condition overall very good, the handle just fabulous, some wear on the finish of the hook.
