Fabulous and precious antique art, a watercolor painting of two young children mourning a fallen bird. It is signed at the bottom center "Charlotte Oak 1877". This painting came to us from England, and we have not been able to find anything on this artist; and she may not have been English. As someone who has tried watercolor, I would rate the artist technique as quite fine, with a soft touch and good use of color and contrast. It is under glass in an old frame with wood backing. We have not opened this up to inspect the art. We see no damage, and we did not want to risk accidentally damaging the art. The overall size is 16" by19 & 1/4 " and the exposed painting size is 11 & 1/2" by 14 & 1/2". Notice the beautiful facial qualities of the girl and the details of the wood cage in which their precious bird had lived. Just a sweet, old painting, and very nice being signed and dated.
