Fabulous antique wood box, a religious box that may have been a last rites container, or communion kit, just not sure. On the top a beautiful cross of fine brass with matching brass corner decorations and escutcheon and clasp. The wood appears to be tiger oak with a beautiful patina and in good condition with the corners construction, just wonderful construction details. The interior is purple silk with the top lining in good condition and the bottom lining with some missing places. Attached to a hook at the top is a very old brush used in rites. The box measures 10 & 1/2" by 11 & 1/2" and is 4 & 1/2" tall. From the 1800's and a very rare item to find, especially in such nice condition.
