This lovely antique brooch with swivel pendant loop is such a wonderful "fake", it was designed to have the appearance of real pearls and diamonds, but is of course faux pearls and faux diamonds. The unique thing about this piece is whereas they did use the less expensive settings, the maker did not at all skimp on the quality of the setting, it is made and designed identical to what one would expect had the diamonds been real ! The quality is excellent, the pin fastener in back in good working order, and the swivel loop for hanging as a pendant folds down quite smoothly flat when not in use. Note in the photos the intricate detailing on the metalwork, both in the openwork on the sides and the detailed mountings on the front. The faux pearls are large and quite lustrous, with a creamy color typical of many antique pearls, and the assumed glass "diamonds" are set with great care as a background for the pearls. I love how they did the centerpiece with one single pearl of different shape also surrounded by another row of sparklies. I bought this 10 years or so ago from a friend, this had been her grandmothers brooch, it was quite a collection with most of the items of this fine quality. The metal used is a shiny silver assumed to be the quality rhodium jewelry metal of the era, there are no markings as to maker, country, or metal content. It has always amazed me that these older pieces often were not signed, and quite often sold at fine jewelry stores even though not "real". I would date this piece 1920's to pre-1940's given the age of the original owner and the design and quality of the workmanship. It looks so "real" only your jewelry will know for sure ! This brooch measures approx. 1 & 1/2" diameter, and the depth of the piece from the tip of the center pearl to the flat back not including the size of the fastener is over 1/2". It is knock-dead gorgeous in the center of that infamous "little black dress".
