This beautiful Choker Necklace by KAFIN of New York had belonged to my late Mother-In-Law Catherine. It was bought at the Bonwit Teller & Co. store on 1700 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia in 1952 for the occasion of a dinner being held by the Penn AC (Pennsylvania Athletic Club) of which she and her husband were long time members.
I know this because Catherine loved to talk about her Jewelry, where it came from and what it was bought for. I would sit with her and make notes of this collection of memories for her as she thought I needed to know for future reference. It kept the peace between us and...it is a handy thing to know and share with you.
This beauty is 15 and ½ inches long open, end to end. It boasts of 73 clear and bright cut crystal stones attached to 52 large box chain links that are done in a golden metallic finish.
The clasp is marked “KAFIN NEW YORK”. KAFIN was a high end jewelry maker that we actually have little information on in my trade. I know they were in business from July of 1946 until December of 1963, and what they produced was quality costume pieces. I also know this trademark is harder to come across because they had such a short time in business.
Condition is Excellent Vintage. I can not detect anything wrong on this lovely necklace. All stones are present and shine brightly, all metal plating is intact and also shines brightly. In fact, any dark you see is the reflection of my camera. (I am not a professional photographer and these things do get through to my photos.)
